Bowerbirdy Academy: A Community Built on Play, Learning and Opportunity

At Bowerbirdy Academy, we want to make a real difference in the community, whether that’s by giving young people their first job, making sure every child feels included, or supporting local businesses. Our social values shape everything we do because we believe that education, play, and opportunity should be for everyone.

Helping Young People Take Their Next Steps

We don’t just run sessions for children; we also support young people as they step into the world of work. That’s why we prioritise hiring staff aged 16 and over, giving them hands-on experience, proper training, and a place to develop leadership skills. Many of them started with us as children and now run the very activities they once enjoyed.

For those who aren’t quite ready for paid work, we offer volunteering opportunities. This gives them a chance to build confidence, learn responsibility, and strengthen their CVs before moving on to their next challenge. We’ve already seen so many of our former team members go into careers in teaching, childcare, and creative industries, and we’re always looking for ways to support the next generation.

Helping Young People

Making Sure Every Child Feels Included

Every child should have a space where they feel safe, welcomed, and able to take part. We make sure our activities are designed with inclusion in mind, adapting sessions where needed and creating an environment where children of all abilities and backgrounds feel valued.

Our staff receive training so they can provide the best support possible, and we’re always listening to families and the community to find ways to improve. It’s not just about making activities accessible, but about making sure every child feels like they belong.

Making Sure Every Child Feels Included

Keeping It Local

We believe in supporting the businesses around us, which is why we try to source everything we can locally. The food for our cooking sessions, the supplies for our arts and crafts, and the equipment we use for activities all come from independent businesses.

It’s not just about convenience. By working with local suppliers, we’re helping to keep small businesses going while providing children with high-quality materials and resources. Everyone benefits when we support each other.

Keeping it Local

Looking After the Environment

Sustainability is something we take seriously, and we do our best to make sure our activities reflect that. We choose eco-friendly materials where possible, cut down on waste, and encourage children to think about how they can take care of the world around them.

Whether it’s upcycling old materials in an art session, using locally sourced ingredients in food tech, or running nature-based play activities, we want to show children that small choices can make a big difference.

Bowerbirdy Academy: Looking After the Environment

Building a Stronger Community

Bowerbirdy Academy is more than just a place for activities. It’s a place where children grow up feeling supported, where young people take their first steps into work, and where families know they’re part of something bigger.

By focusing on inclusion, sustainability, and local support, we’re not just running sessions. We’re creating a space where people can connect, learn, and thrive.
